Handbill of Stephen Etnier's workEntry/Object ID
2003.546c.3461Description
A color photograph of a handbill selling two pieces of Etnier's work. It includes two of his paintings; "Dory" and "The Boulder".
Both are rather idyllic scenes typical of his preference for a mix of realism and luminism. "Dory" depicts a single small boat docked off the shore. "The Boulder" also features a boat, but places less focus as it sits small in comparison to the large boulder beside it. The sun appears to set in the background reflecting on the water.

Two of Etnier’s pieces are featured on this handbill: “Dory” and “The Boulder.” Both works are rather idyllic, very typical of his preference for a mix of realism and luminism, an American landscape painting style with an interest in the effects of light and atmosphere. The landscapes often depict a tranquil and calm scene. Etnier’s admiration for coastal life in Harpswell is noticeable in the care and precision put into these pieces.
