Notes

Dr. Houghton White, author of A Maine Prodigy: The Life and Adventures of Elsie Fellows White, a biography compiled from author, composer, and violinist, Mary Elise Fellows White's autobiography, diaries, and other primary sources, is devoted to Maine history as well as his family's own unique history. Creativity and artistry runs in the family as he is pictured here painting as a child, standing in front of an easel with one hand placed on his hip, in a room devoted to art, probably the art room of a Brunswick school. The word “art” encompasses so many things, from him creating the painting in this photo and the work he would later complete in the publishing of his book to Mary Elise Fellows White’s life as a musical artist.
