Note from Steve McCausland, former spokesperson for Maine Department of Public Safety: "July of 1970. The crowd of 200 were protesting a local ordinance, enacted by the town council, that prohibited the playing of football and frisbees on the downtown mall. That ordinance was later repealed. Although the protests took place during the height of Vietnam War unrest, the Brunswick incident had nothing to do with that conflict."Collection
