The Brunt District

Name/Title

Burnt District

Entry/Object ID

1982.95.32

Description

A sepia toned stereopticon slide of the "Burnt District" showing Scribner's, Colby and the Cove Mill along the Brunswick side of the Androscoggin River. On the back of the photo it reads: "Brunswick and Topsham Scenery, by Wm. Pierce, Brunswick." My guess is this was called the Burnt District because of the 1825 fire which destroyed many of the buildings in this area.
