Pen and ink portrait drawing of Harriet Beecher Stowe. Stowe lived with her family in Brunswick, Maine from 1850 to 1852 while her husband Calvin taught at Bowdoin College. While living in Brunswick, Stowe wrote her famous novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin." The book, about the injustices of slavery, has been cited as having an influence on the start of the Civil War. When President Abraham Lincoln met Mrs. Stowe, he's reported to have exclaimed "So this is the little lady who started the war!" Not dated.Collection
