Labor of Love: Creating Art and CommunityNotes
Edythe Laws (1922-1984) was a local artist in Brunswick, ME, who had around 48 one-woman shows around the United States from 1945 to her final show at Bowdoin College in 1984, just before her passing. In addition to her one-woman shows, her art was displayed in exhibitions across America and Europe. She is pictured here beside her painting titled, “War Destruction.” Although Laws is known for her serene landscape and marine paintings, she often did commissions for local businesses and residents as is the case with this painting, which is very different from her usual style, created for Brunswick clothing merchandiser, W. F. Senter Co.
