A B/W photograph of Ira Pierce Booker was born November 28, 1832 in Lisbon, ME. Mr. Booker was the Secretary to the Board of Overseers at Bowdoin College from July 13, 1869 until June 1891. He was the Treasurer of Bowdoin College from 1895 until June 1913, when he resigned because of ill health. Bowdoin College conferred upon Mr. Booker the honorary degree of Master of Arts. Mr. Booker was the oldest Mason in Brunswick, having taken his Master Mason's Degree in United Lodge No. 8, October 21, 1856. He was the Treasurer of United Lodge from 1868 until 1914. A Mr. Booker was one of the first Auditors elected by the Town of Brunswick. He held this position from 1865 until he retired in 1907, serving for 42 years. Mr. Booker was the Secretary for the Pejepscot Historical Society. He died March 19, 1916 at the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 21 days. All stores in Town were closed for the funeral to show great respect for a man well liked by all. Photo is ca 1900Collection
