Description

Harriet Beecher Stowe house, c 1900, before conversion to a restaurant and motel in1946. The house was built by S. Melcher III for the Rev. Benjamin Titcomb in 1807. Harriet Beecher Stowe came to Brunswick with her husband Calvin in 1850. Stowe rented the house with her husband and children from 1850 - 1852 while Calvin Stowe taught at Bowdoin College. The house was later known as the Whitmore House.
