Description

A B/W photographic view of the original Lawson House in South Harpswell. It sat close to the road near the present David Collins House. There are several unidentified men, women and children in the photo. The Lawson HOo1884 to 1900. A. and H.M. Welsch were proprietors 1898-1900. It then was renamed OCEAN VIEW HOUSE, 1901-1905, operated by Col. Geroge w. Campbell, who also operated the Merriconeag Hotel. 1905-1911 proprietor was A.S. Young. 1914 - Harry Lightfoot remained in it all winter and went swimming in icy ocean every day much to the amazement of the natives. 1920's-Proprieter Lena Perry . Owners built a swimming pool with ocean water and revived Lem Lawon's store as a gift-candy-ice cream shop. This store moved down the road a bit and became the Alton Savage Cottage.
