P-3C MEETS THE PACIFIC OCEAN--The U.S. Navy's new P-3C Orion antisubmarine patrol aircraft gets its first look at the Pacific Ocean on its initial test flight from Lockheed-California Company's Burbank, California, plant. The P-3C will join the Navy's ASW avionics system developed by the Naval Air Development Center, Johnsville, Pa. A fully integrated weapons system built around an airborne digital computer, the P-3C is equipped with the most advanced electronic sensors and armed with a variety of ASW weapons. More than 250 P-3C and P-3B aircraft are presently flying from the Navy's Atlantic and Pacific Fleet patrol squadron bases around the world. P-3B aircraft are also in service with the Royal Australian Air Force and the Royal New Zealand Air Force.Lexicon
