Description

A group of students in front of the "Little School" on Oak Street, taken 1890 - 1900. This was the first school building for the St. John Parish in Brunswick. The Catholic school served the French-Canadian population of the town. The building is now Tondreau's garage (1988). According to the 1901 Sanborn map of Brunswick, a parochial school was located behind a convent at 12 Oak Street. The convent still exists as an apartment building, and there is an old frame structure behind it which may have at one time been a garage and may incorporate the original parochial school structure (2010). Label on reverse of image includes name of A J Caron, 12 High street, Brunswick.
