A B/W photograph of President Rev. Jesse Appleton (born Nov. 17, 1772 and died Nov. 12, 1819), second President of Bowdoin College, Brunswick, ME. from 1807 until his 1819 death. Appleton's daughter, Jane, married Franklin Pierce and became a First Lady. Photo not dated. Jesse Appleton is buried with his wife Elizabeth (died 1844 at age 65) in Pine Grove Cemetery. Unverified: Florence Appleton's husband descended from him - lived on Federal Street. (Stowe House?)
