Notes

Stephen Etnier (1903-1984) is one of Maine’s most influential artists. A Pennsylvania native, he had spent summers in Harpswell, ME with his family since infancy and began spending the majority of his time in Maine after 1935. He is remembered for his paintings’ mix of realism and luminism, often inspired by the time he spent cruising down the New England coast and ruminating on the shorelines of Maine.
