Description

The building was the Union Hotel from 1862-1905. It was also known as the Peary House and the Cliff House. The photo was taken in 1966. Located in Cundy's Harbor. Builder: David Simpson Built in 1862 Former Owners: John and Sally Rand Simpson operated it as a tavern one year, then returned to sea. Sold to Robert Watson who changed it into a church. In 1867 James Jewell bought it and changed it to a hotel again and operated it un 1885. It catered to the Portland trade with the twin screw steamers, the Pejepscot and Percy V, running from that city to Cundy's Harbor, Cape Small Point, and Sebasco. Jewell called it the Cliff House. Capt E.D. and Laura _____ operated it as the Percy House 1897-1905. In the 1920's Mr. and Mrs. Ludovic Moreau of Auburn, Maine served shore dinners there. Admirably restored by Richard Hatch.
