Commodore PDSC 2003 - 05 Patron: 2014 - 2016 Treasurer: 1993- 2001 Awarded Life Membership 2005 Joined the club in 1965, sailing with Jim and Tim Vance in 14 foot dinghies. Sailed Javelins with my cousin Tim Vance from 1972 to 1979, Tim skippering and myself crew. Then in 1980, Tim and I commenced sailing 14 foot skiffs (now known as international 14s) and are still sailing international 14s in 2019-2020 sailing season. Family members who have sailed at PDSC Dave Vance, Kim Vance, Greg Vance, Jeff Vance, Murray Vance Phil Vance, Steve Vance Jim Vance Tim Vance, Heather Vance Paul Arena, Mark Arena, Andrew Vance, Renae Fowler, Blake Vance Dave & Jim named all their boats starting with the letter V. They won two 14ft state championships in boats named Valiant & Ventura in 1950 & 1955 when the club was located near the Barrack St jetty. The family continued the tradition with boats named Vie, Varuna, Volaire, Vagabond & Vanquish. The Vance family has sailed in Mudlarks, Jay- Dees, Cherubs, Javelins & I14s at PDSC & have been successful in winning club & state championships. Kim Vance sailing forward hand on a Javelin wona Australian Championship in the 1974-1975 season held at PDSC. Junior club coach during the 90’s for mudlarks and Jay Dees and President of the Mudlark State Association 98-99 Introduction of the cherub class to PDSC for the 2000/01 season Start boat and rescue boat volunteer when required Member of the illustrious “Retired PDSC Lawn Mowing Team” Involved in plumbing maintenance and refurbishment of the club premises over many years. While I was Commodore, one of the most significant challenges was when “Kurrajong” (the clubs much loved start boat) was deemed unsafe after an insurance company inspection. “Kurrajong” was a timber boat and had developed wood rot in the hull. This led to many meetings regarding the purchasing another boat or repairing “Kurrajong”. As there were no immediate replacement boats available, it was decided to leave Kurrajong on the hard stand for 1 season while it was repaired by club members. Our other rescue boat, “Warrigal” was the stand in start boat for a season, before “Kurrajong” returned the following year after her refurbishment.Created By
