Description

Celadon green stoneware jug, dull glaze on the exterior, shiny glazed interior. Handle is moulded in shape of a greyhound, moulded design of strawberries and leaves around the spout. Two different scenes are moulded on the sides. One side shows an Antelope being attacked by a lion, the other side is moulded with a scene of a bear being attacked by five dogs, the dogs appear to be getting the worst of the battle. The maker and date are impressed on the bottom which is quite rare and lucky for us. It reads: PUBLISHED BY RIDGEWAY & CO. HANLEY October 1 1835.
