Description

Large cup and saucer with white ground, scalloped rims decorated with three faded bluish-green stripes, banded at five points with gilt acanthus leaves on both cups and and saucers. The extreriors of the cups have a banding of gold leaves and scrolls, very delicate. Probably, the gilding was done with the honey process. The edging design is much faded due to age and washing, as the old guilding processes were not as stable as present ones. However, the exterior design on the cup is still fresh. Used in the mid-nineteenth century in England for breakfast tea. Circa 1850. This is part of the set 969.5.1,a,b,aa,bb,c,d,cc,dd,e & f. No identifying marks are present.
