RS12 - Resource Book 12: The Town of Perth has a very unique history from its founding in 1816 to the present day. In the author's quest to record 180 years of history of the merchants Perth, it has enabled him to share the progress that has eveolved over the years of this fair town. (Now designated the best place to retire to in Canada!) Quattrocchi shows how Perth has, street by street and building by building, progressed to the present day and how enterprising some ancestors were to achieve the legacy left for others to carry on. The Settlement of Perth commenced on the 18th of April 1816 when the first group of settlers arrived, the location, on a river called the Pike at first and then changed to the Tay. The surveyors had laid out the street plan in blocks of 4 one acre lots, at an odd angle to the compass straddling the river from North Street (second line) to South Street (Scotch Line) with Wilson, Gore, Drummond and Beckwith the main connecting street. In between, Foster, Herriott, the Island, Harvey, Craig, Brock, Cockburn, Halton and Robinson. With on the islands Colborne, Basin, Baby, Market and Mill Streets. The total 9 1/2 blocks North to South and 8 blocks East to West, with designated locations for churches, school, stores and a burial ground. Physical Description: Soft cover.
