Description

This mahogany table has a bowed front, with one single drawer with two oval brass bail-handed pulls in the Hepplewhite style, which are later replacements for the originals. It has tapered Hepplewhite legs and the spade feet usually associated with his designs. This table was used as a dressing table by Margaret McLaren Hall, but it is more believable as a hall table as it is now used. It may possibly be of the late 18th century or early 19th century, circa 1790. Its very hard to give authoritative authenification on a piece like this without a complete family backgound as to when and where it was bought or acquired, since many good 18th century reproductions were made during the 19th centruy simply as pieces of furniture with no attempt to mislead. These have acquired the patina of time during the intervening years and since they were well made to begin with are extremely misleading.
