Description

Dish, Sauce Urn with Saucer, Footed: This sauce dish is in the form of a footed urn with separate cover and saucer. It is decorated with much gold leaf scrolling and peacocks in green, red and gold, on the lid the base and the saucer, with sprays of butterflies sitting on branches scattered about. The pedestal base has four rounded feet and it is pierced to give it a light, lacy effect. The domed lid has a single large gilded flower as a finial, looks like a single dahlia. It has been re-attached with solder. The saucer is especially designed for the urn, as there are depressions in it to allow for the urn's four feet to correspond. There are no identifying marks on any of these pieces, just a red bordered sticker with a faded name on it, someone who once owned it. There is a hairline crack on the pedestal base. Circa 1835.
