Description

Dish, Sauce Urn with Cover, Footed: This sauce dish is in the form of a footed urn with separate cover. THe matching saucer is missing, so a plate from the set is used instaed. It is decorated with much gold leaf scrolling and peacocks in red, green and gold on the lid and base, with sprays of gold butterflies on the flowering branches scatteres about the perimeters. The pedestal base has four rounded feet and is pierced to give a light, lacy effect. the domed lid has a single large gilded floer as a finial which looks like a single dahlia. It has been re-attached with metal. There are no identifying marks other than the lot number 3100 which appears on the base. This urn has been broken a long time ago and repaired with staples, then more recently it was very badly broken and amateurishly put together with obvious yellow "miracle" glue. Five of the original repair staples are missing due to this act. Circa 1835.
