Description

Dish, Vegetable, Covered: This covered vegetable dish is part of the 53 piece set of china originally owned by the Mathesons. It is a rather heavy white china, decorated in rich gold leaf. The dish has a peacock in the centre in red, green and gold, sitting on a flowering branch in red, green and gold leaves. the two pierced handles on either side are scrolled in gold and the edges have sprays of gold and red butterflies encircling the perimeter of the dish. The cover has the same design with the addition of a huge gilded flower which serves as a finial/handle to the lid. These two pieces are perfect with no repairs. the lot number 3100 is painted in red on the underside of the dish, no other identifying marks. Circa 1835.
