Description

This large platter is part of the 53 piece set of china originally owned by the Matheson family. It is a rather heavy white china decorated in rich reddish-gold leaf, the red tone is very apparent on this piece in particular. the platter has a peacock sitting in a flowering branch, all enamelled in red, green and gold, in the centre of the platter. The edges are scalloped and gold leafed in scrolls with an inner scrolled band. the border of the platter has sprays of gold and red butterflies on the flowering branches. It is inperfect condition and has no identifying mark other than the 3100 on the underside. Circa 1835.
