Description

Dishes, Sweetmeat: These sweetmeat dishes are part of the 53 piece set of china originally owned by the Matheson family. It is a rather heavy white china decorated in rich gold leaf. The edges are scalloped and elaborately pierced to give a lacy effect. The scalloped edges are decorated in gold leaf scrolling. the pair of scrolled handles are gilded with leaves and pierced to look applied. there is a border design of red and gold butterflies on gold flowering branches, very delicate. the central design of each plate is of a red, green and gold enamelled bird sitting in a red, green and gold enamelled flowering branch. The two pieces are in perfect condition and both have the number 3100 painted in red on the underside. Circa 1835.
