Rug: The image depicts an ornate rug with a large, intricate central medallion design featuring symmetrical floral patterns and complex geometric shapes, primarily in shades of dark blue, black, and cream, set against a muted red background. The border of the rug is adorned with smaller motifs and a repeating pattern, contrasting the more elaborate centerpiece. The wear and slight discoloration of the rug suggest age, adding to the vintage aesthetic. Dim lighting enhances the warm tones, contributing to the overall antique feel of the scene.

Description

This rug was originally used in the drawing room at Inge-Va, the Radenhurst-Inderwick home built in 1823 by the Rev. Michael Harris. It has a red background now much faded with a centerpiece medallion design which has a navy blue ground surrounded with scrolls and smaller medallions in light blue, rose, cream, rust, and green. There are corresponding scrolled spandrels in each corner in the same general design and colours. It has three separate borders as an edging separated by narrower borders all in shades of navy blue, light blue, red, cream, and green. This rug is badly worn in the centre and has several deep rents in the central area. The fringe still survives in places. Circa 1840.
