Epergne: The image depicts an ornate, tree-like silver centerpiece with intricately detailed leaves and branches supporting a glass plate on top and three crystal bowls, cut in the shape of a maple leaf attached to the stem of the tree. The stem represents a maple tree and the base has a beaver surrounded by water and the edge is land. Very Canadian.

Description

It is constructed of sterling silver, the 7 1/2" base depicting a hill supporting a Maple tree 22" in height. The tree supports four cut glass fruit comports in fine and undamaged condition. The three bowls are attached to the tree and the glass plate is sitting on top of the tree. Plate and bowls are cut in the shape of maple leaves. The branches are 16" in diameter. The base displays beavers around a pond in which a beaver lodge is evident. The epergne is standing on a mirror plateau of electroplated silver of a slightly later date, probably the 1880's. The epergne was manufactured and marked by Robert Hendery of Montreal (1837-1897).
