Description

Harvest and Hair Wreaths 2: These Victorian Wreaths are both made by Mrs. Henry Shillington of Perth. 1) Early Victorian harvest Wreath popular from 1860-1890's. Decorative wreath made from seeds, nuts, grains and flowers. 2) Victorian Hair Wreath: made of human hair, wool, feathers, glass beads, etc. popular mid 19th century and later. Wooden box with a handmade wreath of human hair and a few glass beads. Box W.49.1cm H.61cm D.9.5cm Detachable back covered with off white cardboard, inside frame covered with gold leafed paper which is brass hooks on either side with wire attached for hanging 28.5cm from top, outside frame stained med. brown and varnished. Picture frame front painted black on outer frame; H.51.8cm H.64cm D.2.5cm. Gold coloured paint on inner frame which is glass front L.57.5cm x W.45.5cm x frame front face W.2.5cm. Hair white, blonde, brunette woven on spring type wires; forming shapes of flowers and leaves. Glass beads used to form some of the centres of the flowers - beads blue and clear.
