This fragment of Chinese wallpaper and its border were saved in 1931 when presumably it was removed from the walls of the drawing room. It has been framed recently with a gold frame and a soft green mat. It depicts blue poppies, balsam and nasturtiums, all handblocked in multi colours. The border at the bottom depicts blue asters or cornflowers twinning through a grey ribbon. A beige card was pasted on the wallpaper and it reads: 1837-1931, a section of wallpaper and border imported from China and hung in the drawing room of the Senator R. Matheson house, Perth Ontario in 1837 - removed in 1931.
Original colours of design brilliant, ground white.
