Description

Infant christening gown of fine white lawn which has yellowed slightly with age. The neck line has tiny scallops embroidered with satin stitch and edged with narrow lace. The yoke is embroidered with tiny flowers and bows (All of the embroidery herin described is white on white). The bottom fo the yoke where it joins the rest of the gown is edged in delicate openwork. On the seams of the raglan-style sleeves, from the bottom edge of tiny flowers and leaves. Three more indentical rows of tiny embrodiered flowers and leaves, each also 5cm long from the edge of the yoke, are space 4cm apart, on the front of the gown. The sleeve openings are edged with tiny scallops embroidered with satin stitch and trimmed with lace. Delicate openwork joins the sleeve edges to the gathered sleeve end and one tiny flower and steim is embroidered at each sleeve end. At the upper centre back is a 24cm - long placket which closes with 2 tiny white buttons and buttonholes on the yoke. The body of the dress is gathered onto the yoke and has two side French seams. It falls to a length of 75cm, and the bottom edge is scalloped and embroidreed in satin stitch and edged with narrow lace. Tiny flowers on stems are embroidred all around the bottom edge of the dress at 4cm - intervals. The dress is in perfect condition except for some slight age discolouration.
