Description

A forged iron ladle. The bowl is circular in shape with a rounded bottom. It has crude spouts on either side. The edge of the bowl is relatively thick and irregular. Where the handle is attached to the bowl the metal is very rough. It appears that the handle may have been welded to the bowl (a later repair?) Laying the artifact on a flat surface (for description purposes) the handle is bent at the distal end and then slopes downwards as you approach the proximal end. The handle is flat on the top surface and rounded on the bottom, except at the distal end where both sides are flat creating flat sides as well. Also at the distal end the handle tapers and is bent around to create a hole for hanging purposes. This piece is black in colour and has a very crude over-all appearance. This may indicate that it was made by a young apprentice or at least someone who was not fully trained in forging iron. It is in good solid shape except for a few 'cracks'. These cracks are on the bowl at the spouts and near where the handle is attached.
