- c.1860 Mourning Dress.
- This dress, the jacket as well as the skirt is made of satin and is handmade. The jacket is short and fitted and the skirt is ankle length and made up of 5 flonnces. Black satin.
- The jacket has fitted sleeves that have two seams one on the inside and one on the outside. The outer seam descends nearly to the waist where there is a two inch slit. On the outer sleeve the elbow is scalloped to allow for more room to move. At the end of the sleeve there is black lace trim of a floral pattern.
- At the back of the jacket there are two four inch ribbon ceinture's with floating ends, which are decorated with six jets (buttons) each. At the front of the jacket there are two floating ends or points and thirteen jet buttons from the collar to the waist.
- On the left side of the jacket there is a small pocket watch. It is torn.
- There are 5 darts on the jacket including the seam on the back, for a more fitted form.
- The jacket has a high manderin collar. the collar as well as he sleeves, and the edge of the jacket are all trimmed with black satin torsade.
- The skirt and the jacket are both lined. The jacket is lined with a pin-stripped cotton material which is stained. The skirt is lined with a brown cotton material which is stained. The skirt is lined with a brown cotton material, there appears to be a section that has been cut out.
- The skirt is made up of 5 flonnces of black satin. The satin is embroidered with a black floral design.
- The hem and the edge of the skirt are trimmed with black velvet.Dimensions
