Description

- Day Dress c. 1865. - This dress is a Ronnel Day Dress. It has a half high bodice with a fitted form and a round neckline. - The material used is satin with pink, brown and black twilled, horizontal stripes on a background of vertical stripes of 3 shades of brown. - The linning of the dress is cotton and a stained golden colour. Around the bottom of the skirt there is 3.5 inches of black lining for extra protection. there is lining on the back of the delerine and the bows on the bustle is a dark brown satin. - This dress has bishop sleeves. There is 3 inches on the shoulder of the sleeve where it has been made to give a "puffed" effect. The cuffs on the sleeve are fairly large with a two inch slit on the inside, it can be attached by a hook and eye. The cuff is decorated with a navy, green trimming and there are black glass beads added for extra decoration. there are two seams on the sleeve, an inside and on the outside sleeve. - Ther are folds draped from the shulders to the waist on the back of the dress. These folds form a "V" shape. This is known as "trimming with a heart pelerine". - From the neck of the bodice to the waist of the skirt there are 12 hooks 30 eyes to attach the dress. - The skirt is formed by seven flonnces and is trimmed at the edge with a woollen materal folded in half and sewn into the skirt. The rear of the skirt is trimmed with four rows of accordion pleating in shoad "U" shapes. At the end of each trimming there are cravat bows of satin of the same design and black velvet. - The waist and the edge of the cuffs are trimmed with torsage of the same satin. - With this dress is a single band pelerine. This pelerine has three floating ends - two of a triangular shape and one of a rectangular shape. The rectangular end has a trimming of black in a curvy shape. The pelerine does up in the front with two hooks and eyes. The backing of the pelerine is a dark brown satin.
