The clock face is circular, 14.5 cm in diameter, and covered with a glass cover which swings on a hinge to the left. The hands are ornate iron and the numerals are blue Roman numerals on white ceramic tiles which are inset into the gold-painted metal face (see bibliography for same tiles). Both sides of the clock are faced with silver panels depicting allegorical scenes involving people in formal gardens, temples, etc. The left panel possibly represents a scene from "Romeo & Juliet". Both panels are in high relief. There are 6 supporting feet - 3 ornamental feet of silver or white metal, at the front corners and centre, and 2 adjustable feet at the back corners. The back of the clock is constructed of 3 iron panels - the two side panels are 14.5 cm wide x 20.4 cm high, and the centre panel is 14.9 cm wide x 20.4 cm high. The centre panel has 4 screws, 1 in each corner, which screw into flanges protruding inside the clock, from each side panel. The centre panel has a large hole, 11.5 cm in diameter, which is rimmed with a brass frame and is covered with a brass door, with a hinge on the left, the whole being 14.5 cm in diameter. The brass door has an ornamental design cut out of it, and a piece of cloth is glued on the inside of the door as a dust filter. The brass clock movement is visible through this door. Much of the identification is obscured by various parts of the movement, but the following is visible:
