Barrel:
The caliber is (62.5) of these smooth bore, (percussion) cap pistols. therefore, the bore measures 0.8 cm or 5/16" in diameter. The thickness of the octagonal barrel is 0.3 cm. The bottom octagonal panel has an additional piece of metal (steel) 9.3cm long with its bottom concaved. At the end of this is a metal band covering the bottom half/ 5 panels of the barrel which is the end piece of the forestock. Half sticking out at the wooden forestok is a slightly decorative 3.8cm long tube for hold the ramrod. A little above this tube is a small round pin going through the forestock.
The top panel of the barrel has a "slighting" head that is placed in 0.8cm from the end of the barrel. The other end of the barrel has the sighting "V" in front of the nipple plate.
Stock:
The stock is made out of (walnut or ash). The butt stock is oblong that curves out to a 0.8cm band and has a flat bottom. The inside of the handle is a 1.2cm by 7.2 cm plate with a simple slot screw with notches going from the centre outwards.
At the top of this plate is the beginning of the trigger guard. the guard looks like an elongated letter "D" with a curl at the bottom. The bottom curve of the "D" is widened and has a design engraved. the design resembles plaine/scroll gathered in the middle. at the top of the gurad is another plate that is again secured with a slot screw with notches. At the end of the plate, it curves into 2 heads with a point at the end. (see original worksheet for hand drawing)
The trigger is a semi-circular, steel piece slightly curved at the top. it is attached to another piece of metal that inserts into a metal plate insidee the trigger guard plates. In frnt of the trigger is a plain slot screw with a hole parrallel with the stock.
At the back of the handle on the top, the wood tapers out to a point flush with the barrel. the protrussion is rounded underneath.
Hammer and Lockplate:
Above the trigger, the wood is raised and rounded with a flat surface on both sides of the stock, but the lockplate is on the rightside of each gun. The hammer and lockplate have been engraved in plum/scroll work with a border (see picture on worksheet) on the leftside of the hammer is a plain slot screw. the hammer is secured by a large round headed slot screw with nothes going from centre to the outside. the hammer goes back to half and full cock. the nipple is another plate that covers the top half of the barrel. On either side of this plate are 4 indented lines running across the barrel. the side and top panel are decorated with plume/scroll work. there is still another plate on top of the stock that froms part of the nipple and cover the top half of the barrel. it the narrows to an elongated "V" (5.5cm long) and fastended down by 2 slot screws. these screws are incorporaqted into the engraved plume/scroll.
In the middle of the lockplate and the metal edge of the forestock is an oblong faded brass plate with a smaller oblong headed 0.8cm wide pin going through the stock with the same brass plate and no oblong head on the other side.
Barrel Brush:
This muticoloured circular barrel brush has a continuous metal handle and loop on the end. The brush measures 4cm long, 15cm long handle, and 1.6cm wide loop. the brush has black, white and brown bristles.
CONDITION:
The barrel brush is in fair condition. The handle is a little bent. One wire of the twisted handle is starting to unravel next to the bristles. The brush is full of dirt (thread, fuzzy, hair etc.) Also, the bristles are not out evenly.
996.44.1c This malteioloured circular barrel bruch has a continuos metal handle and loop on the end. The brush measures 4 cm long, 15 cm long handle, and 1.6 cm wide loop. The brush has black, white and brown buiatles.
Condition
The barrel brush is in fain condition. The handle is a little bent. One wire of the twist handle starting to unravel next to the bistles. The brush is full of dint (thread, fuss, etc.). Also, the bistles are made out evenly.
996.44.1d - Ramrod
The 23.4 cm long wooden rod slightly tapes from the steel and to the brass handle. The steel end is flat with the wood and widens out at the end. At the tip, it indents in with a little larger than a pin hole in the middle.
The brass handle is also flush with the wood. Towards the tip of the brass handle are three indented small bands. The two middle brands have a serious of continuous notches.
Condition
The condition of the ramrod is good. The steel end has small spots of metal corrosion on the outside, the identaion is brown, and the edges of the holes has a corrosion build up around it. The wooden rod is half covered in black paatches. The brass handle appears to have been boken once because there is an uneven line going around with black spots. Also, It has a few notches.
996.44.1e - Dueling Case
This is a cherrywood and brass duelling case with green baize lining.
The lid of the fox meausures 49.2 cm long by 24.1 cm wide and 2.15 cm high. The brass handle when folded down away from the front of the box becomes flush with the surface.
Therefore, one side of the handle is flat and the other side is semicircular. The lid has been hollowed out so the handle can snugly fit. cln order to take out the handle, there is a semicircular notch at the top of the handle. The handle is fastened down on either side by an ablong brass piece with two slat screws. The handle and parts are simple and plain.
On the front of the box are two brass loops inseted 9.1 cm in from the ends. The holes of the loops run parallel with the box.
The lid on the inside is inlaid 1.6 cm from the edges 0.9 cm deep. The inlaid section is lined with an irregular rectangular piece of green baize.
The front inside lip has the top piece of the lock. The lock is a rectangular metal piece (6 cm by 1 cm) insented into the wood flust with the lip. This metal piece has two rectangular loops with squarish holes seperated by and on either side with three slat brass screws.
The lid is connected at the back of the box by 2 brass hinges inlaid into the wood and seccured down by4 brass slat screws.
The box side are lined with 0.7 cm thick wood that sticks out with the outside edges rounded. Inside the box are 5 rectangular compatments. The geens are laid in the box with the butt and barrel facing eachother with one rectangular box in the middle of the geens. The other components are running length wise inside the box. These compartments have a cut out where the geen lammer's nest. The box is lined with green bridge.
The front lip of the box has a rectangular brass pice 6.2 cm 1 cm with two rectangular holes which is the bottom piece of the back. cln the centre of the front of the box is a round brass slightly decorative key hole. The bottom corners of the box are gently tapered. The whole box is varnished except for the bottom.
Condition
The condition of the dueling case is very good. The handle does not lie flush against the lid. Also, where the handle ends are placed under the ablong brass pieces, it has been worn away some of the brass. There is a rip in the baize lozven centre inside the lid. The lining on the inside of the box is discoloured and worn away in a few spots. There are a coulpe of nicks on the front left hand side of the box. On the unfinished bottom are many scratches and nicks.Dimensions
