The andirons have iron horizontal supports that are sqaure, there is an iron finial log stop (an identical miniature of the finial on the vertical shaft) with a cast iron cap/case over the the horizontal support (from the log stop to the base of the vertical shaft). [Note - the finial log stop and iron cap/case is missing (has broken off) 997.70.1.1.1b]. The bow in the leg is (approx.) 15 cm long x 13 cm in height. The bow in the leg is square. The legs are made of brass and have ball feet, then an inverted balaster, angular knob, and bladed knob with a ball at the knee. The horizontal part of the legs are cylindrical with a waisted small small bladed knob near the balled knees. (The vertical shafts do not rest directly in the middle of the legs, they are slightly off-centred to the left). The vertical shaft is made of brass that is hollow with a forged iron rod inside it that is square. The iron shaft penetrating the top of the legs is spread and peaned. The shaft has 2 (barely visible) vertical joints opposite each other from top to bottom. The bottom of the vertical shaft is stepped, then there is a bulge (a ball), next it has an annulated-bladed knob combination, next the vertical shaft is waisted with 3 rudimentary knobs followed by 3 more rudimentary knobs that are waisted from above. There is a bladed knob collar. Near the top of the finial is the largest part of the andiron. There is a bladed knob, then an angular knob, and a swollen bladed knob. The top of the finial is flanged, then dome-stepped with a ball top/finial.
There are no maker's marks on the andiron.
