Description

Soft cover; Blue with black lettering ⟪CP⟫ all over the cover; 358 pages. It was known irreverently as the Bible. The CP Style Book had many of the qualities that justified such a title: it was authoritative, principled, sometimes capricious, a mixture of sombre injunctions and practical rules. Above all, like the Bible, it came from a need for guidance in day-to-day conduct. Through more than a half-dozen major and minor reworkings since the first slim edition in 1940, the CP Style Book laid down basic rules for CP reporters and editors on accuracy, impartiality, writing quality, taste. And it provided down-to-earth help on spelling, grammar, capitalization and other chronic hazards of the craft. Some examples of topics covered in the book are: Principles; Abbreviations and Acronyms; Advances; Age; At-a-Glance, Highlights; Breaking Stories; Broadcast Writing; Business; Bylines; Capitalization; Coding and Keywords; Common Faults; Corrections; Correctives; Government; Military; Place Names; and many more topics.
