997.70.18.1-8Description
997.70.18.1-4 - The plates are made of white coloured pottery with black transfer print. The plates are circular in shape with a slightly scalloped rim. Around the outer edge of the brim of the plates are 2 small triangle shaped bands with points of the triangles facing inwards. The outer of the 2 bands has solid black coloured triangles, while the inner band has only the outline of triangle shapes. The triange points of the transfer print are visible only on these bands. On the brim and side of the plates there are 6 black transfers of grouped flowers, of 2 different patterns which alternate. The smaller of the 2 patterns have a butterfly within the flowers. In the centre of the plate the transfer print has a group of flowers and fruit, with a wicker basket in the foreground. There is a bird on one of the flowers and another bird beside it flying toward the flowers and fruit. To the left of the flowers and fruit is the Pagoda, and to the right of it is another small Chinese building with mountains behind it. The base of the plates has the word "Pagoda" (pattern name) with a wreath of flowers, leaves and fruit around it and underneath the wreath is "E. W & S.".
997.70.18.5-8 - These plates are identical to 997.70.18.1-4 except the transfer in the centre of the plate is reversd.
Description of Markings:
997.70.18.1 - "39" is printed to the upper right of the pagoda mark which is off-centred to the lower left. Impressed star in circle on the Pagoda mark.
997.70.18.2 - The Pagoda mark is centred and there is a maker's mark to the right of it which says "39". There is an impressed star in a circle above the Pagoda mark.
997.70.18.3 - The Pagoda mark is centred, with possibly "39" or "6?" to the left of it. There is a star inside a circle impressed on the Pagoda mark.
997.70.18.4 - the pagoda mark is slightly off-centred to the right, above it is the mark "39". There is an impressed star (no circle) on the Pagoda mark.
997.70.18.5 - The Pagoda mark is near the bottom of the base, an impressed star in a circle above it and "11" in blue above it. Near the centre of the base is "48" in black.
997.70.18.6 - The Pagoda mark is off-centred to the right. Just below it is "11" in blue, to the left of it an impressed star, and to the left of the star is "48" in black.
997.70.18.7 - The Pagoda mark is off to the right of the base, above it is "11" in blue, to the left of it is "48" in black and near the footring to the left is an impressed star.
997.70.18.8 - The Pagoda mark is only slightly to the left of the centre, and there is an impressed "L" to the upper-left of it and a number? (or letter?) to the lower-right of it that is indiscernable.Made/Created
