In the reflection, a room with similar wallpaper and a wooden chair can be seen, along with a section of patterned carpet. The rich, red curtains framing part of the mirror add a touch of elegance to the scene. The intricate detailing on the mirror's frame includes small floral and column-like embellishments, enhancing its vintage aesthetic, and the overall setting exudes a classic feel.

Description

This mirror is made of pine, gessoed and then gold leafed. It is in the very classical "tabernacle" or "trumeau" style with a separate section above the mirror proper. Sometimes this area was filled with a painting or an engraving, but in this case it merely holds another piece of mirror. The frame is composed of turned pilasters with corner blocks at top and bottom. There are rosettes in the upper corner blocks and the mirror has a cornice at its top. The lower right corner block has been replaced and shows the raw wood. It hasn't been gessoed or gilded yet. The gilding is quite discoloured with fly spots and the gesso plaster is missing in several areas, especially from the classical ornamentation on the baluster frame. The back is covered with two sheets of old handmade grey paper that has been ripped and water stained and written on this in copperplate is the legend: "6 best mahogany swing frame looking glass 10lbs. + 8lbs. Note: This mirror has been re-gilded with gold leaf on the lower right corner block, the left side of the upper cornice and a bit of the outer moulding. No attempt has been made to hide this as it will wear with time into the overall patina of the original frame.
