Description

Cast iron match holder in shape of a satyr's head crowned with grapes and leaves. Grape and leaf motif rises in a crown behind the three dimensional head and provides a hole for hanging it. c. 1860 Early matches were commonly called "Lucifers" so perhaps this is the connection with satyr's and mythology.
