Description

Irons, Goffering, Fluting or Crimping, 5 and 2 Rods: An implement from crimping or fluting dress material in early Victorian days when ruffles on ladies dresses were so much in vogue. Also used for crimping the hair. 925.221.1a: This crimping iron has a rounded base. The iron extends from the base like a spiral until it reaches the rod. The rod itself, is 10" long. 925.221.1b: This iron is smaller in size and does not have a rod sticking out of it. It is darker in colour than the first iron, but also has rust spots on it. It is 4.5" long. 925.221.1c: This fluting iron is black like 'b', however unlike it, there is an iron stick that comes out from the base. It is 10.5" long. 925.221.1d: This iron is similar in colour to 'a'. It has more rust spots. Again, the base is rounded with a spiral-like effect until it reaches the top of the iron. It is 5.0" long. 925.221.1e: This is the smallest iron in the collection. It is a different colour than the others. It looks like it has flecks of gold seeping through it. It 4.5" long. 925.221.1f: This is the iron from 'a'. It fits into the holder. It is rusty like the holder. The crimper is cylindrical in shape.
