925.224.1-4 - A. This nutmeg Grinder has a wooden handle at the top and a wooden knob at the bottom. The bottom knob is twistable the grinder itself is made of tin or iron and has a flat surface but a rough base.
2. B. This nutmeg grinder is a totally different shape than #A. The base resembles a washing board with flaps along the sides. In the middle of the grinder there is a barrel with a lid that slides up and down the flat surface.
3. C. This grinder is presently being used in a display in the gallery.
4. D. This nutmeg grinder resembles a whistle in shape.
925.224.1-2 - A composite tin and wood nutmeg grater. The grater has a rectangular base with the with the grating surface arched over it. The grating surface created by uniform patterns sharp edged perforated holes. At the bottom it is inserted to a vasiform shaped wooden handle and a thin curcular wire is channelled through the base. The wire is formed into an oblong shape that "surrounds" the grater. The grater slides along this wire. Above the wire the grater encloses the lower part of a tin drum. The drum has a flattened circular hole on one side to insert the nutmeg. Inside the drum is a spring loaded tin plunger to hold the nutmeg in place. The plunger is workfed by a small wooden knob at the top of the plungerrod. On the drum above the opening is the description... "The Edgar/Pat(?). Aug. 18, 1891/Nov.10 1896"

In complete and operable condition. Finish on wooden knob and handles slightly worn. Tin is also worn. Oxidation spots on the bottom base.
