This is a pierced silver wine/decanter coaster with a wooden base. The top of the sides of the coaster and the sides have 6 large ribs. The border around the top of the sides is a simple band with downward growth modified fleur de lis shapes at the top and bottom of each rib. The sides of the coaster are pierced with a diamond and diaper pattern (see 1. pg 9). One side of the coaster has a section for an engraving, but nothing is engraved on it. There is a simple 1 cm band around the base of the side. The base is made of (?) wood that has 4 circular grooves on the interior and one deep circular groove on its exterior. In the centre of the box there is a circular silver disk that goes through the wood (approx. 2.5 cm in diameter). Inside the side of th coaster at the top of one of the ribs are the engraved initials "TY". "TY" may possibly stand for Thomas You, Charleston, S.C. 1756 (see 3. pg. 324).Dimensions
