He is standing in front of a painted studio backdrop with painted flowers and real grass in the foreground. The photograph is dated August 26, 1892 on the rear. The gutter reads "Schmedling 828 Market St. Chattanooga, Tenn." "Milton Burr-Brayside Aug. 26th, 1892" is written in ink on the rear. There is also a lithograph reading "Schmedling Photographer, 828 Market St. Chattanooga, Tenn." with an image of a bouquet of flowers and ferns.
