A photograph mounted on a card showing five electric streetcars in a row head north up Broad Street during the opening day celebration of the Chattanooga Electric Railway, and their new routes to Lookout Mountain and the Incline No. 2, in April 1890. Businessman and developer, C. E. James is seen in the lead car wearing his trademark bowler hat and holding an umbrella.
The rear of the photograph features an aesthetic movement illustration of flowers and reads "Schmedling Photographer, 828 Market St Chattanooga, Tenn"
Car no. 28 was built locally by the Chattanooga Electric Railroad in its own shops at 3rd & Market Street. The company took two old mule-cars and spliced them together and converted them to electric service.Photograph Details
