Description

A baseball card for Chattanooga Lookout's pitcher Jackie Mitchell. The card's verso shows a picture of the Lookout's player pitching with "Jackie Mitchell - Pitcher | 1932 Chattanooga Lookouts". The rear has an image of the original Krystal on the corner of Cherry & 7th Street with the tagline "Take Along A Sack Full" underneath. Above the image box reads "Young Jackie is awaiting a decision on her appeal to Baseball Commissioner K.M. Landis, after Landis voided her contract with the Lookouts early last season. The decree said professional baseball is too strenuous for women. Fans here in Chattanooga believe otherwise, and have written thousands of letters supporting the teenager. Jackie learned to thros the drop-curve from a childhood neighbor, pitcher Dazzy Vance, who is now a star pitcher with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Is she good? On April 2nd of last season, Jackie struck out Babe Ruth, then Lou Gehrig, in an exhibition game against the New York Yankees!" Along the bottom edge, in red, reads "Columbia Litho & Engraving Co."
