Description

Black and white photograph of the front façade and entryway to the Fairyland Inn (later the Fairyland Club building). The Tudor Revival style club and hotel was established by Garnet and Frieda Carter in 1926. The photograph shows the main entrance to the club with a covered awning over the entry way. A stone bay window with gothic details sits above the covered entry and a woman can be seen below. The main tower is built with local mountain stone. The hotel wing seen projecting from the main tower features stucco and half-timbering. There are four automobiles parked along the drive that fronts the club. The Fairyland Club was a social club that was established on Lookout Mountain, Georgia in the 1920s as a social center for the planned Fairlyand Estates by Garnet & Frieda Carter. Construction for the inn was a part of the initial development plans and began in 1924. It opened to the public in June 1925 but in 1927 it was used for private use by members of the Lookout Mountain Fairyland Club as a social and recreational club for its members.
