A two-fold brochure promoting the National Chickamauga Celebration at Chattanooga, September 16-25, 1938.
It advertises the celebration's ten days itinerary, including a visit from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, historical reenactments with a cast of 2000, fireworks, a "Mummers Parade", and burial of a time capsule to be opened in 2038.
The front panel reads "National Chickamauga Celebration at Chattanooga Sept. 16-25" with a illustration consisting of a majorette in white with civil war battle scenes, a parade, and airplanes in the background behind her. The bottom text reads "75th Anniversary Battles of Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge and Lookout Mountain. The History and Character of the Cherokee Indian. Centennial of Chattanooga"
The inside panels describe the various celebratory events, with one panel describing the schedule of events and the with illustrations of parades, reenactments, etc. The schedule reads:
FRIDAY—SEPT. 16—OFFICIAL OPENING of National Chickamauga Celebration. Proclamation and welcome by City and Celebration Officials. Sixth Annual World-famous Cotton Ball, traditional event expressing the hospitality, chivalry and gaiety of the Old South.
SATURDAY — SEPT. 17 — HOME COMING DAY—"March of Time" parade. National Championship Regatta. Military events. All-American Horse Show. Mammoth historical spectacle "Drums of Dixie", cast 2000,30 scenes on 450-ft. stage. Fireworks. "Merrykhana".
SUNDAY—SEPT. 18—VETERANS' DAY—Religious Observance. Memorial services for heroes of Battles of Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Lookout Mountain. Nationally famous speakers. Final dashes of Championship Regatta. Polo, musical drill. "Drums of Dixie".
MONDAY—SEPT. 19—GOVERNORS' DAY—Governors' Reception. United Confederate Veterans' Reunion. "Parade of States"; bands. State Ceremonies. Battle re-enactment by U.S. Army. Governors' Banquet. "Drums of Dixie". Dramatic Fireworks Pageantry. Boxing.
TUESDAY—SEPT. 20—PRESIDENT'S DAY —President's Reception, tour of historic, scenic points. Regimental Review. Gigantic military parade by U. S. Army. President's speech at Chickamauga. Park. Horse Races. President's Banquet. "Drums of Dixie". Fireworks.
WEDNESDAY — SEPT. 21 — CHEROKEE COMMEMORATION—Tribal Parade. Cherokee Dedication. Indian baseball, dances. Squadron drill. Guard mount. Horse Races. "Trail of Tears". Old Southern melodies by Cadek Choral Society. "Drums of Dixie". Fireworks.
THURSDAY—SEPT. 22—FESTIVAL DAY—Cherokee Pilgrimage. Sky Parade. Daring Air Show by famed aviators. Guard mount. Horse Races. Water Carnival displaying colorfully decorated boats. Frye Institute's "Rosamunde". "Drums of Dixie". Fireworks. Wrestling.
FRIDAY—SEPT. 23—ALL CITIES DAY—Celebrities Breakfast. Hilarious "Mummers Parade", FFA parade. Military display of arms and equipment. Football. Horse Races. "Drums of Dixie". Centennial Ball, nationally known orchestra. Dramatic fireworks pageantry.
SATURDAY—SEPT. 24—DIXIE DAY—"Parade of Progress", with governmental, historical, pictorial floats, famous bands. 4-H Parade. Championship Motorcycle Races. Thrilling afternoon spectacles. "Drums of Dixie". Fire-works. "Merrykhana", Street Dance.
SUNDAY—SEPT. 25—ALL STATES DAY—Religious Observance. Memorial Services and Patriotic Rally with nationally famed orators. Community Sing. Polo and musical drill. "Drums of Dixie". Grand finale, sealing the records to be kept until Bicentennial, 2038.
The back panel has colorized photographs of the cannon overlooking Chattanooga on Lookout Mountain as well as an areal view of Moccasin Bend. The photographs are described as "an old gun emplacement on Lookout Mountain overlooking Chattanooga" and "World's most beautiful panorama - Moccasin Bend of the Tennessee River at Chattanooga." A red square between the photographs reads "Join Us! Enjoy with us This Great American Event of 1938." The heading reads "National Chickamauga Celebration at Chattanooga Sept. 16-25" with two banners above, an American flag and a version of the Confederate flag.
