2022.072.002Description
A glass Lantern Slide showing a man standing at the top of the rock formation known as Umbrella Rock on Lookout Mountain. This man is standing on the edge, leaning on a cane and wearing a wide brimmed hat. He is dressed in a dark suit with a tie and what appears to be ribbons pinned to his chest. He may be visiting the mountain for one of the Civil War Reunions that were being held in Chattanooga in this era. The hand tinted slide shows the Tennessee River behind him and the edge of Moccasin Bend on the right as well as the roof of the Point Hotel. There is also a man and woman in the lower right corner, looking down.
The glass layers of the slide are being held with red fabric-like tape. A white frame is over the image and reads "Copyright by | Underwood & Underwood, N.Y." at left and " 184-5745 - Confederate signal station, Lookout | Mountain, Tennessee." on right.Collection
