Description

Black and white photograph developed on postcard paper showing Orchard Knob Avenue after the March 1917 flood of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The photograph shows one side of the road with several houses with the flooded river water up to their front doors. A gas street lamp is seen at the right edge of the photograph. "Orchard Knob Ave." is typed at center on the front of the photograph. Typed on the verso: "Every street in Oak Grove was under water | but Willow and it went under one block this | side of the school house. It reached the first | floor of the school house." with "Chattanooga, TN 1917" handwritten in pencil underneath.
