Description
A black and white photograph showing visitors walking on one of the locks of the Chickamauga Dam. The photograph shows the navigational lock at the center with visitors walking across the gate. Trees and vegetation can be seen in the background of the photograph.
The verso reads "The lock, Chicamauga Dam, Chattanooga, Tennessee - May 14, 1939" in brown ink.
Construction of the the Chickamauga Dam began in 1936 as a part of New Deal funding in an attempt to curb flooding from the Tennessee River. The dam officially opened15 January 1940.
